Noise coming from front of car
Noise coming from front of car
Hi all,
I purchased a used 06 2.2L hhr back in june. It's got some kind of noise coming from the front of it. It's kind of like a thumping, like something is wrong with the wheel, except I don't think it's coming from the wheel and it's not constant. It almost feels like something's loose, because when I go over bumps in the road, it rattles a little bit and I can feel something through the floor board hitting. It acts up especially when I brake, it almost sounds as if it's coming more from the dash than below me. And it also randomly does it as I'm going down the road, particuarly on the highway. This might be two different things, i really don't know. Sorry for the rough description, but i really don't know what else to say to describe it. Anyone had these issues? Oh and by the way, it's got 78k miles on it.

Stabilizer link
Hey guys most likely its the stabilizer link bushings. That is a common problem on these hhrs. I had mine replaced mine at 40k miles. My mechanic put on greesable aftermarket links it ran me about $150. It fixed the clunk. If you need more information do a thread search on stabilizer link. Good luck, hope you get em fixed.
So I figured out what it is. I was at a friend's shop the other day. We changed the oil, transmission fluid and filter, spark plugs, and air filter (thing was origional with 78k. UGH for used cars!). While on low on the lift, I got in and switched gears to make sure the transmisson stuff was good after the fluid and filter were replaced. Every time I switched gears, the motor would move and bang around. my motor mounts are bad. So that's what most of the noise is from. THEN the heat sheild was banging up against the car, so we put a big o-ring in between it and the car. That stopped the problem.
