Not charging

Hello, I'm new to the site. Recently pickup a 2008 LS Panel with 2.2. I used to have one when I was working and kinda liked it so when I was able to pick this one up for $500 (needed all valves replaced, no big deal) I jumped on it. Got car on the road with new brakes etc and now have a charging problem! Started driving the car and wouldnt start after shutting off a few times so I replaced the battery as it was original which is pretty amazing in itself. Checked charging voltage and I even had scanner hooked up so I could see voltage, it was around 13.6 so I continued driving it and just for the hell of it I checked the output voltage again and now I got nothing 12 v .Checked for power at large terminal at alternater and nothing, lifted car up on hoist and checked for power at solenoid, ok. Wiggled the wires around down there and checked again, now have power at terminal, started car again still not charging. Idiot light comes on with key and only once came on when running generally goes out. Checked small wire at plug for voltage (I know its not 12v) and have 0v. Not sure where to go from here and cant find any wiring diagrams. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site , the alternator should be generating 14.6 volts or so, the alternator seems to be tired , requires replacement.

There are only 3 wires involved. The large red wire should go to the alternator and continue to the underhood fuse box then to the battery. The small wires are the regulator and goes to the ECM. The orange wire is the turn on signal and the grey one is the duty cycle signal.

The orange wire might have eithe 5V or 12V (not sure which) when running, the grey is a PWM signal that would be meaningless to a human.

Your nearest auto parts store should perform a free battery load test and charging system test.

The starter is in between the alternator and the fuse block, that's the large wire.
