Oh boy, did I buy a lemon!

2011 hhr with 108k for $3100
car looks great!
Im thinking cracked head or head gasket. Im losing coolant! How am I suppose to know that without driving the car around, using it and monitoring it? Oil dipsitck looks fine, no choclate milk and test drove all around with engine temp staying normal and no overheat.. Good acceleration and power..
I thought I was getting a good price because it needs a bearing in left front..
I started marking coolant level on side of tank to monitor..
Any suggestion?

Welcome to the site, it could just be the coolant tank itself has a small leak.
At idle, do you see any white smoke?

If no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil, probably not as bad as you think. Clean everything good, drive it around and place a big piece of cardboard under it to see where it's dripping from.

No white steam smoke from muffler.. I read some threads about black ring around tailpipe - I do have that.. Getting ready to check spark plugs looking for nice clean zero carbon plug..

hey, whats the little grill thing on the ceiling, its center and on ceiling close to rear view mirror? Its a lttle 1" plastic grill cut into ceiling fabric?
Also, little plastic dome in center of dashboard? No owners manual came with car..
Ill reply back with how plugs look
Thanks guys.

Grill in ceiling is OnStar and Bluetooth microphone

An online owners manual

At your mileage change the spark plugs, get 4 AC Delco 41-103 iridium plugs.
The black on the exhaust is simply a little oil burnt off in the combustion chamber

Online owners manuals are available here for download.

That little plastic dome on the dash is the light sensor for the auto headlights.

You guys are awesome!
Good news - plugs are out and they are ALL consistent in wear & tear and look normal for a car with 108K.. They are AC Delco 12625058 and Im wondering if they are stock plugs? Anyone know? I took a pic for your viewing pleasure..

Those are stock plugs, replacement is suggested at 100,000 miles, also the coolant is recommended to be changed every 5 years, Dexcool only please, the green stuff can mess things up!
Have a look at the throttle body sometimes the oil is sucked out of the pvc hose from the valve cover

GM #12625058 a/c delco spark plug (iridium)
A/C delco # 41-103

Don't try to gap them, they are correct from the factory.

Check the rubber cap on the t-stat housing, they sometimes get a tiny hole and let steam out so you never notice a drip.
