Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
Just got a 08" HHR 2.2 with a whooping 250K miles. Still going strong!
Previous owner really took good care of it but...
...Some oil on the floor in my driveway! After following the leak up, it leads me to the highest point being the alternator. See picture below.
I can see a lot of oil on the pulley and even inside the alternator itself. I know this type of alternator does not need oil. so...I'm a bit confused.
The serpentine (which needs replacement) might be picking up oil from somewhere.
I don't know the "usual" things that break on this model so I'm asking you before I start pulling parts!
I would not be suprised if the oil is being thrown up there.
Check the crankshaft seal behind the harmonic balancer.
If it's not the Genuine GM seal it usually leaks
That usually throws oil at 2500 rpm or so.
X2 ^^^^^ crankshaft to harmonic balancer seal.
I suggest you change the serpentine belt and the tensioner as a set at this age the spring in the tensioner has relaxed a bit.
