Strange Oil Leak

I have a 2006 HHR and for the past weeks, everything has ran smoothly. Suddenly my oil leaked from the car, so I change it and it was fine, but I start it up and all the oil I poured in suddenly just leaked all over the floor. The car still starts up, and the engine still turns so I have no idea if that means a blown motor or just something wrong with my oil pan. Any help?

Welcome to the site, first let’s check the obvious, the drain plug.
Then let’s have a look at the oil cooler at the transmission end of the engine.
Now let’s check the oil filter cap , is it tight did you change the o ring?

Lets not forget to look for where the oil is coming from. There should be some tell-tale signs, like dry above wet below.

Have you run into any rocks in the road, high curbs etc.

Don't be running the engine with no oil in it.

"Suddenly my oil leaked from the car, so I change it" - did you take a look at where the oil might be leaking from PRIOR to doing the oil change?

Being the problem was there before the oil change it isn't likely related to the oil change itself. So checking some of the points Oldblue mentioned would be a good start. You need to open the hood, and check from on top, as well as from below.

Yes you could have a blown motor, or a damaged oil pan, oil pressure switch etc. etc. - all things are possible. You need to lay eyes on it.

and starting it with low, or no oil, will be the kiss of death for the engine. So don't do that anymore. If you want to start it, to track the oil leak, top up the oil first.

Yeah, that cap is the only place that I would think could cause sudden and catastrophic loss of oil, from being stripped or not tight enough. My old neighbor had an HHR and had changed his oil, not tightening the plastic cap down fully, resulting in an HHR oil version of Niagara falls. Think simple first!

It was here, but the photobucket link is no good anymore. Or less.
