Sorry Judge.

Chevy MGR: Yes there is/was a 5/60000 drive train warranty. At intro it was 3/36000, but later changed to 5/60000 including original sales; I sold Chevy's for a living back then.

I got a second opinion and pretty much the same thing. Lower case (oil case)/MidCase leak requiring engine removal. Possibly main seal leak (also??). Requires same effort. Total cost about 2 day work, $1300 including main seals. $200 Better than the dealer and that includes main seals that the deal did NOT include.

Too bad the engineers didn't design with an "o" ring style gasket. :-(

From my monitoring, I am not losing enough oil to even consider doing anything to it. The leak is very finite...don't fix something that isn't broke, all the way at least. :)

Agree with above....unless some type of extended warranty was purchased/transferred.

Update

I check another local "rod hod shop" and for a super friendly owner willing to take it on. Cost? $1,100. Still a lot, but manageable. Savings over dealer buys tires!!!

So with this being done, new tires, new Cross Drilled front Brakes, new KYB Shocks & Struts, I'm good for another 4-5 years and 80-10000 miles, knock on wood!!!

On the Warranty Issue, I stated that the 3/36 is/was correct at introduction, However GM changed that, retroactively to 5/60 on 2006 HHR/Cobalts/Aveos. Really

I own a 2006...I wonder why they never told me about that........either you've been misinformed or I need to put up that flag....

You better check that. Way back, close to my 36/36,000 warranty expiring, my '06 HHR was in for service. When I picked it up, I noticed the work order was marked with a 5yr/100,000 warranty. I questioned the Service Manager and the Fleet Sales manager about this and they both indicated it was a mistake...../no extended warranty.

Now what was mentioned is some dealers provided an extended warranty on "CERTIFIED" used vehicles and also some warranties from a 3rd party companies on new and resale vehicles (built into the price however).

But if you insist, the best way to determine an extended warranty, is to take it into the dealer and let them run it through a supposed repair.....but, be prepared to pay. Also, your dealer would have any warranty coverage in VIS, I would think.

And as above suggests...I wasn't, as well as hundreds of others on this forum, notified of any warranty coverage change.

A used engine with less than 10K can be had installed inc. tax for $2000. I just did it, it is a fact $750 for the engine $1200 labor & parts. If you need $1000 worth of work done on half of the engine, and still have 200,000 miles on the other half........?

Due to a slight burning oil smell, I recently checked under the hood and noticed that I have oil spray all around the oil filter cap area.

A small amount of oil has pooled on the block behind the filter area.

I went to a different place to get my oil changed last time and suspect the oil filter cap is either not on properly or has a small pinhole leak.

The oil level in the motor is fine and does not seem to be dropping.

I am due for another oil change soon, so I'll go and buy a new cap and see of that resolves the issue.
