How were you able to drive it to the dealer? Did they fix the control arm mess first? Story flow is confusing me. I would be threatening the sales department with an attorney's card in my hand. Get more than just a repair!

The pic seems to show that they forgot to A)tighten the hinge bolts and B)forgot to even put the bolt that holds the ball joint in. Or, did the steering knuckle just disintegrate?

Sorry for any confusion you may have - but it just fell apart - Pretty much discinigrated on the road. It wasflat beded to the dealer. Day they delivered it the engine cel came on with onstar diagnostics showing cooling system failure - Long story short evrything has been taken care of. They replaced the thermostat flushed the system, put the service manager in direct charge of all the repairs - All good and I'm happy with the service. Back on the road to enjoy our new HHR! EASY GOING - LIFE IS SHORT.....

It should now be good for many miles. One good thing I spotted, the sway bar bushing held together when the lower arm let go. ;-)

Yes, I found that odd also.

I hope that the dealer at least inspected the other side. I think that I may have demanded 2 new control arms. But, if you are happy.....

better have another trusted mechanic check out the bolts and torque all those nuts and bolts, I just went out and checked my ball joint retaining bolts , never thought they would be loose but they took 1 1/2 turns to tighten up, whew that was close, glad eveybody is ok and your ride is back with you, welcome to the site!!

Did you check the "torque angle" when you did that? Or, did you do like the rest of us; just 37 lb ft?

The 2006 HHR book says:
First pass; 37 lb ft, then reverse NUT 3/4 turn.
Second pass; 37 lb ft + 30 degrees.

If anyone needs the 2006 HHR Service Manual give me a PM.
