I have a 08 HHR SS that started to overheat I started of with the more less costly things like the thermostat, but made no difference. I have to date changed the water pump, timing chain, radiator and fan along with the cap and recovery bottle. All the for mentioned parts were purchased new and all but radiator and fan was done by a mechanic. Does or has anyone else had this problem?
If so was it fixed and how? Or is there any advice on my next step to take.
Oh yeah, I have burped it and not the replaced the head gasket.

 

Welcome to the site, first off can you please advise which thermostat you used?
You mention the timing chain, did you also replace the balance shaft chain.
Did you flush the heater core and the oil cooler?
also the new rad, what brand and part number.
I need information to determine the problem, so stay with me.
Ah, one more thing , did you use 50/50 mix Dexcool?

What testing has been done? Sounds like you are throwing random parts at it.
Does the fan run when it is supposed to?
How do you know "not the head gasket"?

 

Overheated how much ? As in what temperature.
Does the fan come on and stay on ? If so, does it cool down with the fan running ? Did you replace the fan with the one that is specific for the SS only ?
The SS fan assembly has a built on control module.
Did you have a loss of coolant when this 1st occurred ?

Answer to op it got to 218 and took about a half hour to get there.

It got to 218 degrees and then what happened?

 

218F is not overheating; 218C is.
At 219F the fan should come on and cool it down to 180F pretty quickly.

 

We are just at the edge of insanity! But not overheated.
