No offense taken, but fwiw the SS motor seems to have the most "serious issues" from what I read here..

Good luck on yours..

I can live with that, its the chance you take for performance.

To update, SLEEPER you were right about bearings but not #3. All four camshaft end bearings are bad. I suspect not enough oil is getting to the top of the engine. But there has to be some sensor that should have detected that.

GM is covering this under the powertrain warrenty. Hope to get the car back by the end of next week.

There is only one oil pressure sensor for the entire system. If one oil gallery gets plugged, that sensor cannot know that some part of the engine is getting starved for oil. Also, low oil level will cause starvation under hard cornering, and it is usually the valve train that gets the worst of it.

This car has NEVER had low oil. I am very anal about upkeep on my car. If there is no sensor for the car to know the upper block is not getting enough oil. This might be something manufacturers consider in the future. I am not blaming GM, this could be caused by anything. But don't put it on me. I change my oil by the book myself because I want to be sure it is done right. I use only premium fuel and my cay is 100% stock. No mods. I have been maintaining my own cars for over 35 years. I was only pointing out a possible design oversight.

Mike- Yep starved top end. I'd be hoping for a new engine.. Hard to get all the particles out of everywhere.

Good luck on that.. Good you have warranty..

Lastest update. GM approved a new engine and was ordered yesterday. I should get the car back the first part of next week.

I'm on the third rental. The HHR 2.2L, then the Mailbu they gave me took a nail in the tire over the weekend. The latest is an Impala. At the rate I'm going through the Chevy line I may get to try a Camaro by the time I get mine back.
