The wiring harness and clip visually look fine and I was careful enough to not break the clip when swapping the original selonoid.

I need to pick up a new battery for my meter so I can check the resistence tonight. If I check both the old and the new selonoid and they both meter out in spec do I have an issue somewhere else? Is being out of ohm spec a tell tail sign of a bad part?

Thanks again for all your help, I really appriciate it!!!

Yes - when the resistance is out of spec.

Tested the OEM solenoid that I replaced with my meter and after multiple tests the readings came back between 11.8 and 12.1

Its on the high side of normal specs but still in that spec range. When I get a chance I will test the aftermarket one and post the results.

Tested the aftermarket solenoid and it metered out at 10.4

Should I be looking at the harness and voltage at the plug? Do you know what the voltage should be at the plug?

No idea - I know it varies probably driven by the ecm, so the voltage likely varies.

If it was me, I'd get a genuine GM solenoid and throw it in.

Here is a link to a p0014 page.

It seems to say don't bother with electrical troubleshooting, just replace the solenoid.

Re- check the harnesses, it is easy to jiggle wires going to the ECM when you replace the oil filter.

I went to GM last night and picked up the genuine GM part. Disconnected the battery to reset the CEL and installed the new solenoid. Reconnected the battery and went for a drive. In just a few minutes the TC light came back on so I went home without the CEL coming back. This morning on my way into work the CEL came back as well.

I will run the diagnostic tonight and see if it still throws the same P0014 code. At this point I'm kinda hoping for something else.

As donbrew suggested I looked at the link he posted and here is what it said

Causes

P0014 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:

Incorrect camshaft timing
Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

Since it seems to not be a solenoid issue, do you have suggestions on how to trouble shoot the other items or is it time to bring it in to the shop?

Well, this is a first for the solenoid issues here. Sorry to hear it has been dragging on, and is still not resolved.

I can't think of anything else at this point - other than that suggestion to do a second oil and filter change to see if it flushes out some "crud" (scientific term for bad stuff). If that doesn't resolve it, I'd take it to the dealer and see what they can come up with.

Oh, did you change the filter at the same time as the oil, when this whole problem started?

How many miles on the car?

Dont be sorry. Even with the problems I would much rather have the HHR then the EX. At least I can fix the problems with the car

New oil, new oil filter, and new air filter all done on the same day. I dont remember the brand of the filter used though.

I think I will give it a little time and change the oil again as suggested.

The odometer just rolled over 100000 with the issue starting shortly before.

Re-check ALL of the electrical connections that COULD have been touched. The MAF, the CMP sensors, the CMP solenoids, the Crankshaft position sensor etc. as well as the harness that goes into the Darth Vader hood (ECM,TCM). And re-check wiring harnesses for chafing or melting. My last resort would be a oil cleaner/flush thing, I hate them, but it may be the fix.

That's about all I got.
