P0016 code after timing chain tensioner installed
Well update all done man the car runs like brand new ,the motor sit pretty no shaking ,the chain was stretch and a tooth off ..any way the cloyes set is a great replacement updated oiler and timing chain tensioner also came with cam bolts and i am very happy ..
Ok my guess when the shop replaced the tensioner the new style they did not soak it in oil and just started the car ,according to the ecotec forums you should soak it in oil and then push the tip in out tell it builds pressure and then install , so i am assuming the tensioner did not release until it built pressure and probably skip a tooth but not sure until we open the valve cover for sure and check the timing which in turn the p0016 code..anyways i had that chain rattle before the new tensioner was installed ,but word to wise ....
Mine is running fine but threw a P0016 code after 20 miles. I'm praying that disconnecting the negative battery lead cancels the code. I just dumped an Audi A4 because $1,400 for a timing belt at 105k was pretty much mandatory. I don't need to be explaining to my better half why the Chevy I bought to replace the money pit Audi now needs the same repair.

The new tensioner is oil and spring loaded. When you install the updated tensioner it still has to be released to properly tension the timing chain before starting the car. Here are some pictures of the old and New tensioner. You can see that the new one still has the spring loaded parts that get released by taping with the valve cover removed.
prior to installing my "new style" tensioner in my 2006 w/80k on it, I oil soaked over night in 5w-30..pumped the tensioner and installed..absolutely no problems to report..did so bout 6k miles ago..........
I do know that when I installed mine i removed the valve cover and tripped the tensioner like it states in the manual. it trips and pretensions the chain with very little effort. so little infact that I didnt think it was releasing so i removed it and it shot out of the block under spring tension. Thats why I had to take it apart to reset it.

Looks like y'all will be ready for another 170K.
