Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
First cut two plies from 3/4" MDF. One ply matches intake gasket. Other ply has "round" holes to permit the vacuum attachment. Then glued them together.
Finished product after gluing and doing final trimming.
Jig bolted to engine using "old" intake gasket for seal at the head.
A PVC elbow from the local home center worked for the vacuum attachment. The blaster wand was a piece of 3/8" copper (chrome plated) faucet feed piping from the local home center. It has a compression fitting (3/8" compression by 1/4" NPT) on the end to attach to the gun. The NPT threads needed shaved down slightly to fit in the gun's bore; no big deal though.
Here's the whole setup in action. Start blasting. No mess! No blasting shrapnel in the face!
Note: I cleaned the vacuum hopper first. That way, all of the collected walnut media could be re-used as the blasting hopper emptied. With a few recycles from vacuum to blaster, a 5# bag of media from eBay did the job, with media to spare.
The valves looked great when all done, but of course, the whole job went sideways because of the aforementioned carb cleaner in the crankcase.
Started with 90psi, but realized it wasn't getting the job done very well. So I bumped up to 100psi. In hindsight, I think the walnut media I bought was a little finer than it should have been also (the seller said it was 40/50 walnut shell). I think the fineness of it led to less-than-optimal cleaning from the blaster alone, which led to a lot of "picking" with awls and copper coat hangers. So if there is a next time, I think I'd go a little coarser.

Thanks! No CNC. Careful use of a standard woodshop router.
@admin, what does this message mean? I'm trying to upload a 3min video of my engine's cold start after rebuilding it. It is WMV format and is ~57Mb in size. I tried repeatedly. I even tried compressing it in ZIP format. No dice though.
I managed post videos right from my Iphone 8.
I clicked on go advanced , then take picture or video.
I took the video and posted it
I think I successfully posted a video to this forum a couple years ago. But it was only a few seconds long, thus only a couple hundred Kb. My new video is much larger though, and I'm going to guess that is my problem. Nevertheless, I'll load it to YouTube later and link it over here. Standby.
