P0480

2006 2.2
Have P0480 code. Fans not working .If I ground pin 87 on the fan relay ,fan starts right up. I have good continuity on the dark green wire from pin 87 on the relay to pin 47 on the ECM. I replaced the ECM with a used one from Flashmasters on EBay but same thing . I'm thinking could be another bad ECM.
Any ideas ? Thanks
Coolant temp sensor is good

The relay bad? The ground (driver side radiator support).

Read this: P0480 Cooling Fan Relay 1 Control Circuit

The ECM provides the ground, it is grounded at the radiator support.

Sounds more like the relay is bad to me. I don't remember the relay codes in my condition at the moment, but they are not a secret (all relays have the same numbers on the pins).

I've substituted the crank relay for the fan relay and it starts. (same relay number) also put 12 volts across the relay coil and it completes the pickup of the output contactors with good continuity .

Relay is good
I also replaced it with a new relay and still no fan
I have +12 v on pins 87 and 86
Pin 30 is connected to blue fan wire
Pin 85 is connected to pin 47 on the ECM

Thanks for your response

donbrew. I had to reread it too. I think it means he took the questionable fan relay and put it in the crank relays place.
Since it started(cranked), I'm assuming he's saying the fan relay is good.

I'm with you on your post above to check the ground. I posted that picture of the ground circuit to give him an "incentive" to check it out.
The picture I posted is from a 2008 service manual. The OP's being a 2006, I don't know if the ground point is the same.

The main ECM ground is driver side radiator support, it is also the main engine block ground (2 wires).

I' m checking the ground
I appreciate your detailed explanation of the connections.
I can put +12 v on the blue wire to the fan and it runs - does that mean ground is good or could ground to ECM be open ?
Thanks for your help !
