P258b
P258b
Hello everyone. Im getting a code p258b after doing a seafoam treatment to my car. ive done Seafoam a million times to my other vehicles (through the brake booster line) Ive checked and double checked all lines are secure.I checked that the check valve was working correctly. i cant seem to figure out why the code comes back. on a side note, when i clear the code and do a remote start car will sometimes stall after about 5 seconds and the code comes back. Any suggestions?
There's a check valve in the vacuum line from the brake booster, its possible that the SeaFoam has caused it to stick open, this TSB gives the location of the valve.
#PIC5149: Check Engine Light With P258B DTC - (May 13, 2009)
Subject: "Check Engine" light with P258B DTC
Models: 2008 - 2009 Chevrolet HHR-SS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some dealers have reported that after installation of the OHB Brake kit per TSB 09-05-22-001A, a CHECK ENGINE light will be on and DTC P258B will be set. Following eSI diagnostics may lead dealers to try reprogramming the ECM or EBCM and also replace the Vacuum pump.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Dealers should check the vacuum line from the vacuum pump to the inline "T" on the main vacuum line to the booster. There is a check valve built into this line near the pump. If the technician can blow through the line in both directions, replace this section of vacuum line. If airflow is blocked in one direction then continue with diagnosis. If the hose is replaced, prior to installation, confirm that airflow is blocked in one direction on the new hose.

Seafoam.... I'm starting to wonder about this stuff.
Had a coworker put some in his 2006 Nissan Frontier a couple of weeks ago.
3 days later his fuel pump quit on him. Makes you think maybe Seafoam is not all it's hyped up about to believe.

Thanks 843de thats the first thing i did when i got to work (Chevy dealership) but that is only after the OHB Brake kit, so dead end there. And like i said i checked the function of the hose itself ensuring the check valve was working properly. I wont knock SeaFoam as it has worked wonders in many vehicles i have owned.. Oh well back to trying to figure out whats causing it.
