Same!

So I have an 06 HHR and her clear coat is seriously damaged. She doesn't get car washes from those machine washes or anything like that. I bought her from my grandparents who never had her buffed or anything either. It's really upsetting me.

Sounds like an excuse for a cool paint job. Maybe 2 tone with chrome trim?

The first time I went to Texas, I was there 4 months, killed the clear coat on my Neon. It had been detailed before I went there, so that was the beginning of the end.

Southern sun. My black Arizona SS is “sunburned” too. All the horizontal surfaces are a mess, and more stone chips than I can count. Got it cheap, enjoying a rust-free car in Ohio, definitely worth a repaint if I feel like it, which will cost $4000 ish

I suppose you could polish off the loose stuff and put some fancy wax on it for an improvement that still won’t look great.

Anyone try just sanding down and clear coating the damaged area? I have some over the pass side rear door on the roof.. and the sll below the door, pass side rear the rest looks fine. strange location, maybe parked in a garage with an outside window in that spot.

It's not that hard to do but if you are not used to sanding you'll want to be very careful not to sand through the color coat. Very easy to do if you are not used to it.

Yup been there! mostly want to knock down the edge of the peeled clear coatand maybe take off some of the oxidation on the color coat. Hopefully it doesn't just bubble up after painting.
