If I waited, I think it was six months later; I would have gotten the 100,000 mile warranty. So, yeah I'm kicking myself for not even extending the warranty or even waiting, but I didn't know they were going to do that.
Unless you paid for an extended, the 06 HHR has a 3/36 warranty. The 07 added the 5/100 powertrain warranty, the 06 did not get grandfathered.

Now if they have added the 5/100 warranty to the 06 HHR, I would like to know.

Question to the OP. And I really don't mean for this to sound like I'm bashing you but I've worked in the dealer environment and I'm curious to see what your tipping point is? You're into the car for 4 years and almost 70k miles at what point would you not be upset that this broke, setting aside that this is a common occurrence?
I've had people screaming at me that their light blew out the moment they are from under warranty to people screaming at me that I need to warranty tires @ 100k miles. I'm just trying to see what would be a fair amount of time for this to wear out. I mean we all understand, even the same item, may wear out quicker for one person rather than another.

Considering you do something with electronics I thought you might like the aux battery.
Lol, I hear ya', but my jumper cables were in that compartment in the rear. So, the car was dead and no immediate way to get my cables, especially with that dog barrier in the back. (Doesn't that hatch have to be opened to get to that compartment above the spare tire?) It then dawned on me, Hmmm, I should keep the jumper cables somewhere else in the car. I never had the battery run down in that HHR before. I didn't think that one through before tossing the cables in that rear compartment, lol. (luckily, I had a set in the garage.)

So, the service manager said he will talk to GM about my issue with the shifter and call me Friday. They were unaware of the TSB which thanks to this forum, I gave them that TSB# and it popped up on their computer. That seem to give way more validity to my problem. By the way, there is an update to that particular TSB. Its #06-07-30-004F now. From E to F and I think the changes just rattle off some part numbers.

I thought near the end of the model year they added it? I'm not 100% sure though... Mine has it, but mine was certified used...so I'm not sure.

I originally heard they did also, but then ChevyMgr said it only applied to the 06 Cobalt, not the HHR (why, no clue). But if you got yours in writing, you should have it.

But then, I did get mine new. I know my mother's 06 Cobalt's went to 5/100, she got a letter from GM. Her's was used, but not certified.

And if GM extended the warranty on the used 06 HHR's that were certified to 5/100 and not the new ones, that would really be

I understand your point. Tires, ball joints, brakes, what have you, fail and are, no doubt, a common occurrence. If fact that is to be expected. But the shifter in an automatic? I would think that the shifter in an automatic should last the lifetime of the car. IMO, they installed a poorly made part. To me, this is obvious since they are stating in that TSB, 2006 - 2010 shifter are expected to fall apart as mine did. I have a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere, the oldest car in my possession, that the shifter never needed to be repaired. In fact I've never had an automatic shifter problem with any car.

It was stated in another forum that GM should have considered a metal collar or ring around the plastic bit that holds that pin to reinforce it and this problem would have never become a nuisance.

Well you had me questioning myself so I went out and looked in the car... Sure enough with my paperwork is the warranty card for the certified used, and it does say 5/100k from the in service date, so 1 year from when my bumper to bumper expires... Didn't see anything that would indicate the length of that warranty to the original owner in the manual or anything...

Don't forget the Aveo had the 5 year 60K also in 2006.

The only way to get a 5/100K powertrain warranty on an '06 was to buy it certified used.

Correct. I guess I got lucky! So really my car had a 4/48k bumper to bumper, and 5/100k powertrain... not bad. Funny though how it's still the same car, but the original owner wouldn't get that satisfaction... Oh well, not his problem!
