I have a chevy hhr 2008 2.4 engine and i very often
refer to this site for repair guidance. my car stopped accelerating while driving. as a result, i just recently replaced the fuel pump last week as well as the associated fuse. the mechanic said the pump looked completely done for and the fuse was blown. Note: CEL is not on. now, the car will weakly start then immediately shut off. the battery is good. so i really have no clue where to go from here. any suggestions?

That is nothing to go on. What does the mechanic have to say about it?
My first guess would be a clogged catalytic converter but that should have caused a CEL. Have the spark plugs ever been changed, with the correct AC/Delco Iridium 41-103?
A compression test would tell a lot.

to my knowledge the spark plugs haven’t been changed. the mechanic is going to change the pigtail plug to see if that’s the issue. i normally fix these things myself but i didn’t have the tools or expertise to change the fuel
pump.
pump.

Pigtail plug? At the fuel pump? Is he guessing that will fix it?
Has he inspected the fuel lines? Any smell of fuel or wet insulation in the fuel lines up under the HHR on the driver’s side just in front of the rear tire?

Which pigtail are you speaking of? Did you check the MAF sensor
This is the MAF sensor connector, you don’t need to disconnect the air filter box, just check the connection, is it plugged in firmly?

Be sure to use AC/Delco 41-103 iridium spark plugs, they should be changed at 100,000 miles. Don't try to gap them!
Do a compression/leak down test.
