Found this at another site:

Vehicles that are set up for E85 from the factory use a lined tank and other parts of the fuel system that are less susceptible to breakdown from the contact with the ethanol. The HHR is NOT one of these vehicles. Using ethanol results in reduced power and fuel mileage, and from I've seen from visiting Iowa this weekend, it's not even a better deal than regular gas anymore. The vehicles GM is equipping for E85 are larger cars and trucks and all of them usually have more powerful engines that won't see as much of a performance dropoff as the HHR's Ecotecs.

So, in short, don't use E85 in the HHR. It wasn't designed for it and you'll kill the fuel delivery system.

 

You can use the 10% Ethanol...no problems there..in fact my Matrix got the same if not better mpg with the 10% blend...now E85 is a different beast altogether

Yes, that is a big no no unless you have a vehicle such as the "Flex Fuel" ones. There are no E85 stations in this area afaik(New England) More of a Mid-West thingy

We had E85 gas in Indiana. Your car has to state that it can use E85 but many noticed a lower MPG using the E85 so the slightly lower cost did not really pay off.

 

WRONG. Using E85 fuel on a vehicle that can take it WILL NOT result in a performance drop. In fact it will yield more power because of the higher octane. Fuel economy will suffer a little bit. Why use E85, it's better for our environment than our standard petroleum based fuel. My source is directly from several GM Sales Training Representatives.

 

I have a 07 2.4 with 6400 miles on it. HyWy 27. I had a 2000 3.0 Buick Century that got 31 HYWY. A 2006 Impala that averaged 28. I think the HHR should get 30 plus. It does do real good when I towe it behind the motor home. If i could just keep it from filling up with water when in rains.

i feel your pain. Actually, my HHR averages lower. Somewhere between 15.5 and 15 mpg, but thats mainly because I have a leadfoot and will drive like a maniac when i have a chance to

 

Wow. I think you may have a record here. You just responded to a 10 year old thread. ( always check the date stamps )

 

That's what the forum is about, just that I doubt the members from 10 years ago will respond.
