I looked around on here and saw a bunch of threads about the power assist going out on the HHR, but I havent seen any about the issue Im having. every once in a while, I will turn the wheel at a stop or something and the headlights dim alot. The wheel is a bit harder to turn, but it doesnt feel like the assist is completely gone. Has anyone else experienced this? I figure its the motors way of tellin me its about that time to be replaced. its got 100k on it now. I know the motor replacement it pretty straight forward. just wanna get a jump on it before it goes out on me at an inopportune time.

The electric motor is the most common but there other thing that can bind and make the steering hard to turn. My 07 is doing the same thing but I have not been able to get it to ack up on demand. I figure it will get worse and the problem with show its self in time.

 

The lights dimming sure does sound like the motor, assuming your electrical system is healthy.
