Question Power Steering Motor

Hi guys,
I always wondered just how the power steering pump/motor actually works?
What I what to know, could you retrofit it to fit on a light car like a '65 Mustang?
I need to know how the wiring to the motor works, or if this is at all feasible?
Thanks,
Mo

HHR's have an electric power assist motor mounted inside the vehicle, no pump or hydraulics.

Retrofitting the column and assorted electronics into a vintage vehicle would be technically challenging and probably cost prohibitive.

This "How To" thread on changing out the steering motor will give you an idea of how it's arranged and functions.

There may already be aftermarket kits to convert Mustangs to electrically assisted power steering, folks have been converting them to rack and pinion steering for years.
