My '08 has 42,000 on odo and has been rock solid since the day we drove it home. I might not wait until it fails to get dealer to fix it.

I can get one for 72 bucks from this seller: http://www.gmpartsoutlet.net/chevrol...steering-motor

My time and my peace of mind is worth it and it looks like an easy fix.

YMMV. Just my $.02.

If you check with your local dealer, you can most likely get it for free, under the recent "lifetime" extended warranty.

It's working fine. Don't you have to demonstrate a problem with it to have it replaced by dealer? (I do appreciate the response, however:thumb: )

I'd rather be proactive than reactive to a safety issue like this . . . .

While stuff like this isn't specific to GM, it irritates me to see that a known problem has to manifest itself before it gets replaced. Of course, that's how the ignition switches were dealt with in the beginning, too. My first letter way back when just offered extended replacement coverage if it acted up.

Now the switches are full blown recall. Given enough time, same with power steering motor, I suppose. Past performance is not in GM's favor here.

I'll deal with the switch issue first, then investigate the steering motor. I could just get a loaner while they wait for parts, but I'd rather not tie up a loaner for somebody that really needs it. We have 2 cars, and I'll just drive the HHR, since I can handle it better than my wife if it craps the bed.

She'll feel safer in the Kia.

Telephone?

PM works. I generally don't share or list much personal info on forums. No offense.

I think he is suggesting you telephone the dealer and talk with them to figure out what they will do for you.

No prob. I'll talk to them when when I get to deal with the ignition switch.

So far, knock on wood, no issues with these items. I just wanted to put it out there if anybody else thinks they might just want to replace the motor and be done with it. Another source for parts.

Appreciate the forum and the updates. :thumb:

Hi,
I have an issue with power steering assistance that disable shortly after start, once every 2 or 3 weeks. I restart the vehicule and everything goes back to normal. So if I am correct reading this thread I have to replace the power steering motor? I live in Canada, my hhr is 2007. Will GM replace it for free or I have to do it myself.

Oldblue 05-06-2020 07:38 AM

GM Canada honoured the extended warranty, they replaced the EPS motor in Oldblue twice , that was my 2007 LS.
Go to your local dealership and ask them, the computer should have a history of the problem.
