The new motors have solved this issue, so they say. By the way the 2008 malibu ps motors are now being recalled and the 2005-2007 malibus steering columns are being recalled.

The HHR may be recalled later so if anyone has ps motor or column replacements done, I would keep your receipts. They will refund the monies if they recall them.

I had my niece and nephew in town this week. So having 4 kids to cart around resulted in me driving the Venture all week. Started the HHR to come to work tonight, temperature outside was 91 and I drove the whole way to work with no code.

This weekend and next week the temps are suppose to be in the mid to low 80's so I am curious to see how it does next week. I am just trying to buy more time. We have to get our house ready for an appraisal and that coupled with the unexpected guests have left 0 time for working on the car.

Just thought I would give an update. Its possible with limited use and cooler temps it might last a little longer.

Just had my wife's 2005 Cobalt in for the recall. Never had an issue in 69,000 with the old one, but then again I make my wife go the long way around our block to pull in front of the house instead of making a sharp u turn. I also tell her never make left lock to right lock turns, unless it's an emergency.

I am hoping that the new PS Motor last just as long. If it goes out within a certain amount of time I wounder if its warrantied?

Good day, tell me please:
07 HHR, 75,000 miles
4-5 times per day, an error POWER STEERING.
DTC is not detected
Fuses 60A and 2A - serviceable

I read the thread and realized that the solution - replacement of power steering assist motor.

Unfortunately I can not use the services of a dealer, Chevy HHR, is not sold in Belarus. : (

Replacing the motor is guaranteed a solution?
How often fail PSCM?

What to buy power steering assist motor?

Your code reader must not know how to check the PSCM. He probably only checks codes in ECMs or his reader may not be able to. I would take it to someone that can pull codes correctly or you can take a shot in the dark and replace the power steering motor. The motor is most likely what is failing, but without codes I can't help you on the internet.
I read your thread and bought a replacement motor for my daughters hhr2010. I was told by the mechanic I consulted before I attempted replacement, that there is a sensor on the rack and pinion that might be bad as well and that the repair can not be done at home unless you can electronically recalibrate the motor. Is this legit or is he jerking me around? It seems like all you did was carefully change out the motor with no “reprogramming” necessary.

thank you again for having this forum! My daughter loves this car, but it is so frustrating Being at the mercy of dealerships and repair centers.

Had you read even more you would know that it is a FREE replacement extended warranty on the motor.

Has she had the ignition switch recalls done?

Curiously enough

Actually I did do some research into the possibility of the free repair and was told that this particular hhr does not qualify for the recall. Upon checking the Chevrolet recall site and inputting the vin number I was met with the same result. Therefore I resorted to attempting the repair myself.

Whoever told you that was misinformed. It is not a recall, that's why the site agreed.

It is an extended warranty. If the error code was displayed there should not have been any discussion. If it wasn't you would have to argue a little.

Now that you replaced it yourself are you positive that you replaced it with the updated part?
