Power steering problems, but nothing showing on DIC

I am having problems with the power steering on my 2006 HHR. I have checked both of the fuses, so it is probably the power steering motor. My question is, why am I not getting a notification on my DIC? I thought I was supposed to get a warning message. I had problems with my thermostat earlier, and again had no notification on my DIC.
Is there a problem with my computer, and will this affect the power steering "warranty" that I received a letter about?

Well, exactly what is the problem with the power steering you are having?

It's kinda hard to figure out what the problem is without some sort of details: is it losing the power assist, or feeling jerky, seizing up, making noise, and the list goes on.

Steering intermittently goes out, making it difficult to steer. It was first noticeable when steering out of a turn. Normally, the car will straighten most of the way itself when you release the steering wheel, but now it 'sticks' and has to be manually steered back to straight. It has gotten worse in the past week, to the point where it is noticeable whenever turning the wheel. It seems to get difficult momentarily, then release, then get difficult again.

Sounds like the power steering motor. Call your local Chevy dealer with your VIN handy - they will confirm if it is covered by the extended warranty that you should have gotten a letter about.

Could also be the intermediate steering shaft. But go with the ESC motor.

Could just reread the letter. I don't remember it saying anything about DIC messages.

Why would you continue driving a clearly dangerous vehicle? TG I'm a long way away.

I have not been able to locate where I stored the letter, but I remember that it said that a message would appear on the dash display if/when the power steering went out. I tried starting the car after pulling the main power steering fuse under the hood, and still no message.

Don't worry about the msg not showing up - just get the steering assist addressed, and worry about that later.
