hello all, I am new around this page and new owner of an 06 lt hhr. I apologize if this seems like a trivial question but may save me a call to the stealer. so here goes.

I believe there is an LED light in the headliner aimed at the switches in yours.

See if that is lighting..

(Edit): Welcome ......

Yeah you've got the little "Book of The Month Club" complimentary reading light/LED thingy that shines down on the light switches. You get used to it after a while, and some here have replaced it with a dome light retrofit...give the search function a try and Welcome Aboard!

When I bought my 07 the salesman at the dealership did not even know that the little light was even there until I pointed it out to him. And I thought the salesman were supposed to know the products they sold – lol. I personally found the light to be rather annoying at night. I hated seeing it when I looked into my rear view mirror. After a few months of driving my HHR I had gotten used to were all the switches were and so I simply covered the little light with a piece of black electrical tape. At first glance you don’t even know it is there, but when my wife drives it she simply removes the tape and sticks it on the underside of the dash compartment. From what I have read, changing that little bulb requires the partial removal of the head liner. All I know is if mine goes bad I am not fixing it – I will get one of those little lights that plug into the lighter.

You know..... that little light helped quite a bit with my night vision issue the other evening. I usually don't drive much at night, transition from dark to bright makes me "theoretically blind" which plays hell when there's on coming traffic....... also gives me a whopper of a headache. Last Tuesday is the first time I've had the HHR out after dark.........

That little light and the auto darkening rear view mirror make this car a pleasure to drive after dark.

If you or a friend are a little handy with wiring you might want to look at this thread.

A lot of us were not happy with the lighting of the switches and found this to be a good modification.
