how do you change a hvac vent on a 2011 hhr?

When you indicate the "HVAC vent" what are you relating to, specifically? The air deflection vent in the middle or on each end of the dash?

My Dad broke one sometime ago on my HHR. Must have been getting back at me for all the stuff I did as a kid.

I bought a used 2011, and whatever connects the 2 vanes isn't there. I've not tried pulling them out (THANKS, ChevyMgr) but is that service kit the best approach? All 4 of mine are this way.
