Anyone know where is the radiator drain plug located? Also, what type of antifreeze (quantity & type is recommended?

Can't tell you the loaction of the drain, haven't looked for it.

But the entire system holds 48.6 quarts of Dexcool for the 2.2. (51.8 for the 2.4).

Now how much drains is a different story........

Drain plug is on the right hand (passenger side) of the radiator. When you lift the hood and are looking at the engine, it will be on your left. You can look down the side of the radiator with a flashlight and see it.

But it is easier and advisable to just remove the lower radiator hose if you are want to drain it. Also take the pressure cap off to allow the air/gravity to assist in the draining. Those drain plugs are plastic and break easily.

I thought what I posted IS THE TOTAL replacement. Think about it, car is required to have a 50/50 mixture of anti-freeze and drinkable water. Dealers do the service for XXX amount of dollars (generally less than $100.00) and use 4 qts, (1 gallon) to 5 quarts of antifreeze. If this is all they exchanged , that would make much less than a 50/50 mixture. If they mantained the 50/50 mixture it would take roughly 24 quarts.

But, I would ask ChevyMgr or one of the service tech's to intervene with the correct answer. This is a critical area to make a mistake. And I would really like to know.

You wouldn't be taking that data from the "old" GM media release, would you?? There was an admitted error in several areas, including this and HP, if you remember.

48 quarts is 12 gallons, the size of gas tanks in some cars.

...and thats too much when your talking coolant/antifreeze.

1 gallon (4 qts) of coolant and 1 gallon (4 qts) is the maximum you would need on any repairs.
