so i have had this rattleing noise going on for awhile so i started searching and found this. its the shield inder the flex pipe. getting to the one little bolt was a PITA. it is alot heavier than the rest of the heat shields and dont know if its a guard for the cv shaft incase it would fail or what? i was wondering if i could just leave it off?

SHIELD,FRT WHL DRV SHF CV JT BOOT.

 

It is fairly important.

Those are both the same,just different views.

 

Yes just replace the broken part, it protects the cv joint boot from exhaust heat.
