Yep, that's the case.
A little hard to tell the extent of the damage, but the bottom edge definately doesn't look right.

Cool

I haven't experienced this problem with my HHR yet,
but I do know someone who has a Chevy Uplander...
it has a similar bowtie on the back and his is looking pretty bad due to moisture inside of it...

Mine does not have any water in it that I can tell but it appears that the clear coat is pealing off on one of the corners... Time to vist the dealer again,...

How would you take off the plastic bow tie cover to get to the painted gold part or film. Would you use fishing line, heat gun, etc? If so how would you get the gold part off? Would you sand it or could you just peel it off? Is it attached to back of plastic part of bow tie lense? I have notified the dealer and they have ordered a new lift gate handle. They say it is all one piece but the schematic shows bow tie as separate piece. It seems like a waste of time to replace it every time. After 36,000 miles it will be my problem. Thanks for all the info.
my guess is the double sided tape is like no other. i think its similar to the stuff NASA uses to keep the shuttle together. i thought my painted bowtie project was only gonna take me an hour maybe 2. if i had to do it again id just take the damn grill and bar off.

Just replaced mine . Easy fix under warranty. Double sided tape. Same bowtie used on most trucks.

He's replaced already and he's concerned about it being his problem after warranty expires.
