re: donbrew - I've been talking about the recirculation actuator. Since that's not easily replaceable, the second best thing to stop the clicking is to prevent the door from reaching the point where the failing actuator starts making noises.

Having recirc door stuck in flow-through isn't a problem per se, but having the actuator click repeatedly when the car is started is something a lot of HHR drivers would want to rectify.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same items: The recirculation actuator is located inside the top right corner of the dashboard, to the right of the rear of the cabin air filter. This recirculation actuator controls the door shown in the "zip-tie hack" video, correct?

 

The title of the vid is "blend door". The recirc door stays in flow thru. The blend door is the one that usually clicks. Cheymgr posted the pic.

The pic from that post is below. My understanding is that the actuator shown in the pic is the recirculation actuator, and that it controls the door shown in the video. (In other words, regardless of the fact that the video is titled "blend door," the video shows the recirculation door.)

I've been working on a 2008 HHR. When I open the glovebox and remove the cabin air filter, I can see that the door at the rear of the cabin air box (like the one shown in the video) is indeed the one moving in association with the clicking. If that's not the recirculation door controlled by the recirculation actuator, then what is it?

 

OK that does seem to be the one, but check for "stuff" in the fan. I thought it just stayed in flow thru until you push the button.
This one is not HHR but looks close.

 

That is the recurlication door and the zip tie trick did the trick for me, no more clicking.
