Red battery light

Ok, so my situation is kind of complicated. I drive a 2006 HHR LT 2.4. Last week my starter went out. Changed my starter, but got check charge system. Changed alternator and serpentine belt, then I got a red battery light. Trickle charged battery overnight. Still got red battery light. Bought new battery, red battery light still there. Let car run for a while and car won't start again. I'm so frustrated, I don't know what else to do. Thanks for the help in advance!

Don't take this the wrong way but sounds like you're just throwing on parts trying to fix it.
Have you done any diagnostics or tests on the car ? As in, had the charging system tested and what were the results ?

I tested the battery at 12.5v after fully charged, and 12v after starting. Battery began decreasing in voltage as car ran with headlights on. Autozone told me it was my alternator, so I changed that and serpentine belt with it. After changing that, the check charge system message went away, but battery light still on and same problem with battery loosing voltage. Bought a new battery today and the still having the same problem.

Stop changing parts on spec - so far you have replaced the starter, the alternator, serpentine belt, and now the battery, and you still have problems. Take it to a shop for diagnostics - and not just a parts store - a real shop where they can do full diagnostics, else you will just continue to throw $'s at it.

There's a time to seek professional assistance, and you've reached it.

Until the whole system is gone through, never assume that even new parts are performing properly.

I've had a "New" alternator prove to be bad, and the same for a "New" starter and a couple of batteries over the decades.

I sense the force is not within the Darth Vader hood as Don calls it check for loose connection in the fuse box under the hood, loose ground wires also! And please let us know the outcome of your investigation, and may the force be with the HHR once again!

So Chevy tells me it's my ECM computer that needs to be replaced. They said it's not telling the alternator to charge. Will cost $910 through Chevy. I found one on eBay for $90. Has anybody done this themselves, or know of a thread to direct me to? What are your thoughts?
