Remote Start Intermittant.

2007 HHR LT 2.4 DOHC

The remote start works like a champ during the summer in the desert where I can leave the A/C on while I step into a store.

But in winter it is a sometimes affair. The clearance lights will pop on and a solenoid will whir for 5 seconds like it is trying to engage, then nothing. Seems to be a moisture problem, but where do I look? The dealer wants a $110 diagnostic fee.

New alternator and battery already.

Thanks for any help ahead of time.

If you mean the solenoid on the starter, then that's the place to start.

The description of a whir noise actually sounds as if the starter may be turning but not engaging the flexplate. The starter bendix may be the problem.
If you replace it, best to get a complete starter/solenoid unit.
