The $4K estimate is just to get the biz in the shop, once they dig in, I would expect that number to escalate quite a bit..

And your Dad may have good intentions to "just get it going" But life is worth so much more than that..

Too bad he had changed her insurance to just liability only to bring the rate down.

Good Luck on this deal, Good no-one was hurt.. (Main thing)...

In for parting it out. Personally I made a hair under $7k when I parted out my Neon to pretty much the bare shell! Granted it had a fully built motor and was fully equipped from the factory, but you get the idea- that's how I got the funds to put a down payment on the SS and get all the mods it has. G/L with whatever you do and if you part it out I'm interested in the waterfall and the cover that goes over the steering column if it's the same as what's in my SS.

Later

Well he went the cheap route. Had the crushed part pulled. Hammered out front dents as much as he could. No airbags He took apart the old seat belts and got them working. Windshield is still cracked. Oh well. Not my car.

If you want to repair yourself. Start my pulling the fender, hood and bumpercover off. You should be able to see most of the damage then. Airbags can be replaced and are found on ebay all the time. Frame, that's another story. If you have a friend with a body shop, nows the time to bring a case of beer over.....

But I imagine it will cost you a lot more than $4k to fix. And agree, do it right, or don't do it at all.

Yeah. Told him to do it right. Not only is it now unsafe. But, the resale value is pretty much crap.
