Replaced cam sensors check engine still on
Replaced cam sensors check engine still on
I recently put new Camshaft Position Sensors on because they said that was why the engine light was on and that was the only problem. I bought them from a parts store took it to a garage to have them installed he reset the computer and it came right back on plus he even unhooked the battery. Now the car is jerking again when idling which is what it was doing. Any suggestions?? I can't afford to keep replacing these or taking to the garage to have them replaced.
Thank You,

if you can get the trouble codes and post them here we can probably help you find the problem.
I'm am going to assume that you may have replaced the wrong parts for your problem.
You stated that you replaced the camshaft sensors you may have needed the cam shaft solenoids.
Post up your trouble codes and we can go from there.

They told me the code is P0010 I replaced both sensors since there are two and we didn't know which one was bad, and still the check engine light is on. We have reset the 3 times and it still comes back on. I was told by O'Reilys its a bad part but Autozone doesn't want to see it that way.
It's been 5 weeks since your first post about the problem and you have been just living with it?
Posting the code right off the bat and then checking back within a day or two would have given you the answer right away. Or using the SEARCH tool and looking for the p0010 code would also have pointed you in the right direction.
P0010 does not mean the SENSORS - it means the intake side Camshaft Actuator SOLENOID!!! SOLENOID!!! SOLENOID!!! not sensor!!!
Damn - how many times have the autoparts staff told people it is the sensor!!!!
Mel1987 - you seriously need to go read https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/camshaft-position-actuator-solenoid-valve-replacement-w-pics-p0010-11-p0013-14-a-28779/
The part number you need is: GM's P/N 12655420 (and I recommend sticking with GM if you can). The exhaust part number = 12655421
If you can't get the GM part easily, Dorman Part Numbers: 917-215 for intake, and 917-216 for exhaust.
The link above gives the details on how to replace the SOLENOID - it's an easy 20-30 minute job - and as the parts are relatively cheap, I'd recommend changing them both (the intake and exhaust SOLENOIDS).
What store was it? O'rileys or autozone? I'd pull the sensors they sold you and demand your money back - print this off and show it to them. Let us know their response if you can.

I am having the same issue as these other guys with the CEL and getting the P0010 and P0011 trouble codes. Before I replaced both CPS's the code reader showed (P0010) Cam. Pos. SENSOR and (P0011) Cam. Pos. Timing Over Advanced (Bank 1).......after I replaced both CPS's, now its showing (P0010) Cam. Pos. ACTUATOR CIRCUIT/Open (Bank 1) and again (P0011) Cam. Pos. Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1). So, does this mean that since I replaced both of the CPS's, its now showing what is actually wrong and it IS the Actuators? I'm hoping this is the case so I don't have to sink any more $$$ and time into this before having to take it into a mechanic. I am definitely a DIY guy and try not to throw money out the window. Here in Tennessee, we have this stupid vehicle inspection we have go through with emissions before we can get our tags renewed. Mine expire at the end of March so I need to get this fixed ASAP. I'm guessing I wasted my money on the sensors! Please help!!!
Let me speak rather bluntly here - if you cannot take the time to read a prior post that EXACTLYexplains a situation IDENTICAL to yours, and you do not take the time to read the solutions that EXACTLY explains the resolution to your problem - and you then post the same question...... I don't think we can help you.
When one comes back after a concise and explicit reolution to your problem is posted, and then has further questions that have already been answered..... I don't think we can help you.
If you want help, we are more than willing to help, but you also must be willing to do some work yourself. ...... Such as do some reading, use the search tool at the top of the page, and for &^%$ sakes INCLUDE THE CELL CODES if the CEL is lit. Without the codes, any advice would be a total guess.
