I see a couple videos showing the process, but they'e all already IN the engine. I can't find any videos, pics, or diagrams of how and where it actually is located.

Here is the How-to article on replacing it - it's pretty straight forward, but it is a rather tight place to work in - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...l-p0128-24493/

Just be sure to pay the extra $'s and get the right thermostat -

Its tight, but presumably it's doable? As for the part, guy just gave me the Car Quest one. After I do the job this time, I'll be able to do it in the future so I'm not too worried if it deteriorates in another 60k honestly.

Using the wrong thermostat will probably throw a check engine code...

The part is compatible, it's just not that brand.

Well, you can take your chances, but the experience here has been that other thermos often cause an intermittent CEL.

Do a search here and read a few of the hundred or so posts to enlighten your imaginatiion.

Basic info:
the rubber gasket on the valve part is what fails, the correct part has metal to metal sealing
the temp response may not satisfy the computer

"Its tight, but presumably it's doable?" - well yeah it is, as per the how-to. Many of us have done it ourselves. If it's too tight for you, take it to a shop.

I’ll see you back here in a few months , when the P0128 pops up again, the aftermarket thermostat’s won’t operate within the parameters the computer is looking for, I’ve tried Stant, Motorad and Gates, all failed within a month or two. I installed an AC Delco 131-158. It’s still working 5 years later.
