Reseting Oil Life...
Hey guys, I can't seem to get the oil life meter to reset. Everything I read says to reset it like you would the mpg, trip, etc......no dice. I've even held the reset button for 10 mins once while driving 90 miles.
This is my second GM car with an oil life meter and the other one would reset very easily.
Thanks guys.

The engine has to be off to do this. From the Owner's Manual:
How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset as follows:
1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the engine off.
2. Press the information and reset buttons on the DIC
at the same time to enter the personalization menu.
See DIC Vehicle Personalization on page 3-45.
3. Press the information button to scroll through the
available personalization menu modes until the
DIC display shows OIL-LIFE RESET.
4. Press and hold the reset button until the DIC display
shows ACKNOWLEDGED. This will tell you the
system has been reset.
5. Turn the key to LOCK.
If the CHANGE OIL SOON message comes back on
when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system
has not reset. Repeat the reset procedure.
Hope it helps,

There also is an alternate method of resetting the oil life system in addition to the one Mike described.
1. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. Several beeps sound. This confirms the oil life system has been reset.
3. If the CHANGE OIL message comes back on when you start the engine, repeat the procedure.

Yes, they reset mine at the dealer also. But I'm a little confused with the sticker they put on my window. I waited until 5400 miles to get the oiled changed even though is had 30% oil life left. The sticker says I'm due in 3 months or 8400 miles. So, are they telling me to come in every 3000 miles but the owner's manual says when the oil life indicator shows you should.
Which do you follow?
