Resetting check engine light?

To make a long story short one of my friends has a crazy driveway and I went down it at the wrong angle and scraped the rear bottom of my 06HHR. I noticed some thing hanging under the next day. It was what I believe is the charcoal canister recirculation pump? Luckily it was still in good shape so I pulled it off to stash it till (dangling from wire) I could get it on the lift to put it back in. It went back together fine but when I moved it while I had it apart I got a CEL from it being unplugged I guess.

I tried hooking up my scan tool but its not compatible. Is there any other way to reset the ECU? Can I pull the fuse for a few hours or something? Also since I got the CEL my remote start will not work. I only get a small click from the engine when trying. Is this related? I really don't want to have to go to the dealer for this

I got a CEL when I was trying out a locking gas cap and it wouldn't go off either. So...I disconnected the battery for about an hour and when I reattached the cable, the light was gone and all was well. Just remember when disconnecting the battery, not to shut the rear hatch completely. Otherwise you'll be climbing through the car like I was so you can reattach the battery cable. It that doesn't work, I'd say you're off to the dealers...that's where I was going to head if it didn't take care of the problem. Good luck!!!

I have had my code problems-see other posts. Some codes reset everytime you restart the engine. Others leave the check engine light on for a while. I get the picture of the engine every once in a while. It goes off after a while by itself, but remains stored to be read by a scanner. I have not figured out if it goes off after a certain amount of time or restarts, though.

A mechanic friend of mine has the good scanner, but as of a few months ago did not have the codes for the 2006 models yet. I just saw a scanner on sale in todays paper and would like to check it out to see if it will cover our car. It is only 60 bucks

There is an Actron OBD2 Pocketscan code reader that is on sale for $59.99 at Strauss. Will it read the 06 HHR codes? Can it erase them? Is it a good deal?
