Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
donbrew... you seemed wrapped up on the ODB2 connector (google results)... I was asking for the ABS connector... i appreciate your diligence and the information in the updated PDF... it is very helpful.
I had to take a couple extra parts back to the auto store. Had them put their code reader on it:
C 0899 Low Voltage please advise here
C 0035 Driver's front wheel speed sensor (will use the procedures in the PDF above to trouble shoot this... so far I pulled the connection at the strut, inspected cleaned and dielectric greased it... still got the ABS lights etc, (but even if I fix the speed sensor won't C0899 still illuminate the warnings?)
The clunk at bumps is the drivers front too... hmm.... but after pulling the wheel I'm thinking it might be that the plastic sleave on the strut is loose and making noise.

Reason: updates and clarity
Low voltage means that the wire to the front left wheel is compromised (could be internal). The C0035 tells you which wheel has a problem and the C0899 tells you what the problem is. Whatever it is, the ECBM is not getting a high enough voltage reading to make sense of it. The sensor produces an AC voltage.
You check the links by seeing if the ball joints on each end are good. There should be no movement in any direction except rotation.
I have the 47 pin connector... If I'm reading this correctly I just slide the cover upwards with a screw driver then pull the connector off (towards the wheel well)?
Sometimes the swaybar end links can clunk I have a clunky pair on my 2011, I’ll be posting a video in a few days. Those strut boots can rattle but don’t usually clunk
My apologies about C0899. It actually means that the EBCM is not getting enough volts from the battery. either less than 9.7 voltwhen the car is moving or less than 8.45 volts regardless of vehicle speed.
The struts are blown. That stuff on the shaft is bad.
Go to an auto parts store for a free battery load test and charging system test. Post results here. Not just "everything tested as good", but actual numbers.
Yours should be JL4, look at the label on the glovebox door to be sure.
Do yourself a favor and ignore any written advice or diagnostics the reader gives you; GoOgle the code number or ask about it here.
