Service Code P0016: Besides the timing chain, what should I replace?

Long time 2011 2.2L HHR owner, first time poster. I did a search on the site for P0016 and timing chain, and have read a bunch. There’s a lot of good results, but so many that I can’t glean the info I’m seeking.

If the timing chain does need to be replaced (most likely it does from reading this forum), what else should I replace while I have that part of the engine open? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site, along with the timing chain and balance shaft / water pump chain, the oil pump is an option and the water pump.
I normally clean the oil pump, and inspect the impeller for cracks.
You can reuse the valve cover gasket and tge front cover gasket but be care during disassembly.
tge bolt for the harmonic balancer should be replaced as the seal should also be replaced.
its not a hard job just take your time and feel free to ask us anything, one of us can answer your questions, or type into our search window, there are many how to threads

A complete timing set. Chain, guides, oil spigot. Personally, I would not worry about the sprockets you can if you want too. It is easier to do the water pump while the chains are off, if you want to.

Is P0016 the only code?

Is P0016 the only code?
Yes, only the P0016 code.

Then seeing as you have a 2011 with VVT , I recommend

Cloyes 9-4201SX timing chain kit, no sprockets

Cloyes 9-4202S balance shaft kit

A how to video

Much thanks. I already ordered the ACDelco timing chain kit and was looking for a quality balance shaft chain. Just went ahead and ordered the full Cloyes kit. And thanks for the video link.
