DON"T GET SAFELITE!!! They make their own glass and its cheap! You can use whoever you want to fix it. It is illegal for your insurance company to tell you who to use! They can suggest. But it is your choice and they have to pay!

I had Safelite replace mine with a PPG. Is that uncommon? It wasn't long after the HHR had came out so maybe they hadn't manufactured their own windshield yet?

They may be able to purchase PPG. The Pro Star requirement used to be you only had to purchase $5000 from them a year. So a lot of pro star shops may be using cheaper glass.

I saw the thread title, thought someone had a SMASHED windshield...
It appears to be a rock chip/crack. Was the drama necessary???

It's not drama, I was just asking for advice, I wouldn't think a tiny chip would lead to a 10 inch crack leading down my windshield. Anyways..... all is set and I'm going tommorow to pick out my new windshield. im definetly going to see about geetting the PPG Glass like everyone recommended. Thanks everyone for all the advice!

I get rocks hitting my windshield all the time. Fortunately, it has not splintered so far. But the rocks make a very strange noise like if they were hitting loose chrome trim around the window. Of course, there is no trim but I still can't figure out why it produces that kind of noise.

Yes, windshields are covered in Florida by most first-rate insurance companies. But be careful if you have future losses. They don't like to pay for too many windows and will cancel you if you have other claims, even if they are small.

Go with PPG tinted shaded. the glass will have sun block and a tint at the top. As all have said you get to pick who to replace the glass not the insurance companies.!!!!

You came to the right place for advice, these guys know their stuff, drama aside!
I would call trauma if it happened to me!

I believe for California, glass insurance coverage is optional. I should really ad it to my policy.

Do let us know how it goes.

Glad to have you, Arkansas is free glass also w/FC. I have a chip that I had fixed out of pocket..but nothing like what you got..that's rough..
CH is right on...PPG is much better quality...I'm prejudice...I work at one of their plants....
