Smell of fuel/fumes inside the cabin
have someone hold a rag over tail pipe and then listen up close to flex pipe and if is leaking it will be noisy..and while carbon M may be odorless, the unburned fuel is not....and these cars are not 100% efficient.
Good idea, I'll do that ASAP. I'm at work right now, but I'll do it as soon as I get out of here! Thank you!
UPDATE: I found out why it was smelling like fumes in my car. Somehow the oil filler cap dissapeared off of the engine (I do my own oil changes, and I know for a fact I put that thing back in the last time I did it.) I have no idea how this happened, but I assume it probably flew off in the automated car wash I've been taking my car to. (I normally wash it on my own, but it's below freezing on a daily basis in Wisconsin right now.
In the last 2 or 3 days, my HHR has developed a weird intermittent issue. Now normally, I would say my exhaust got disconnected, or something of that nature, but the whole system is fine.
When the car is sitting still, it will sometimes start to smell like exhaust in the car (not like burning oil or anything.) It can also get quite bad at low speeds.
I immediately thought that the car might be running hot, but the engine temp always stays in the range of 185 -195 in normal running conditions, so I ticked that off the list.
I thought of an oil leak next. Looked under the hood, under the car...not happening.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I be worried about being asphyxiated in this thing?

We apologize for any frustrations you may be experiencing. Have you been to a dealership for a diagnosis? Also, I can check your VIN to see if there is anything applicable to your vehicle.

What is your oil level and how long has it been since the last oil change? Just thinking of possible contamination.
I'll probably have the oil and filter changed when I have some new tires slapped on this weekend, just because I'm winter lazy.
