Snap sound when going to reverse

Got in the HHR this morning. Started it up let her run for a min and when I put it in reverse to back out I heard a loud snap. Put it back in park and tried again and all was good. Drives and shifts great. I may have not had the shift trigger pulled in all the way in or had my foot on the brake all the way like I should. Any thoughts?

Depends. Where did you hear the noise from? If it was from the shifter area, I would guess that the shifter safety release may have got caught and just popped loose.

Maybe a bean under a tire? The park pawl sometimes makes a noise if on an incline.

Went out later today and started the HHR. After putting it in reverse and back into part several times. I noticed if you pull the shift trigger and slowly pull the lever out of park it will hang-up and make a noise coming out of park. However if you pull the trigger and quickly mover the lever back you have no problem.

If it is a concern, and you feel it is abnormal, take it to your dealer, and have them check it out for possible problems. You are still under warranty are you not?

Trying to diagnose a problem like this over the internet likely will lead you nowhere.

I read all of your concerns and I would like to look further into your issue. Could you please private message me your name, address, vehicle identification number, and current mileage?
