Solenoid not engaging after motor rebuild

2006 lt 2.4 automatic. Starter and batter fine, checked.
Power to starter main, not to solenoid.
Tried transmission in all positions with shift rod off and on.
Pulled and pushed all connectors a few times.
Crank relay and crank/run both hot with key in start position.
Park/neutral has power.
What am I missing?

Had you removed the fuse box prior? If so, it looks like you might want to remove it again, and look for bad/damaged connections.

I had done that earlier thinking it may been the problem but all are clean and fine, just didn't tighten that one up enough on reinstall.

If it's the original engine that was rebuilt, and was removed from the vehicle and reinstalled, double check all electrical connections, including all the grounds, making sure they are clean and secure (dirty connections just don't cut it, and the grounds seem to be the issue quite often as they are mostly exposed to the elements).

Especially the ground from the starter and the main ground to the rad support and The one on the trans.

Cleaned and sanded and made sure they were tight. Block to frame, block to wire harness, near fuse block to body. Nothing still permitting signal to solenoid wire which I have a test light to off of the starter.

Found problem, loose connection. Now trying to start it and it is sputtering some and a brief rough but not too rough start. thinking fuel line issue on a low tank but not sure yet.

I would be thinking MAF or EVAP lines.
