Hi!: I have a 2007 HHR LS. I attempted to replace the reading lamp bulbs in the rear view mirror. I was successful in removing the bulb covers, but I could not get the bulbs out. Is there some type of special tool that is used to grip a light bulb and make removing it easier? Thank you!

 

Very small needle nose pliers... some effort with finese. They'll just pop out...

 

Try Xcelite 4" subminiture needle nose pliers. Good for electronic projects as well.

anyone use anything else special to take out the bulbs in the rearview mirror? I tried for at least 1/2 hour to take them out by hand with no luck

 

Xcelite is great-I use them for circuit board work. I have the older light blue foam handle set from the early 80's that say xcelite in black-a nice bunch of mini tools plus interchangeable drivers & ends. Couldn't affort the set now though. A little expensive for a regular person but maybe if there is a Harbor Freight store near you check these-

I use small needle nose with 3m double tape on each jaw then close it around the bulbs in my 2003 impala rear view. Don't tell anyone my secret

 

Usually a piece of soft plastic hose forced over a pull out bulb, will be enough to then pull the bulb out..... Be careful it you use pliers as its usually very easy to brake the bulb.
