A after a difficult time replacing a serpentine belt car will not start. Was fine before belt change but starter turns slow now and makes a whine/growl sound and fails to start.
Hoping for a direction or an answer from some of the guys here. Thanks in advance for All help!!

Something that the belt drives is broken. Idler, AC compressor or alternator.
What was the difficulty?

sorry about this, i am new to forums of this sort. The serpentine belt broke and it was a real bear to put a new one on. I have been a mechanic most of my life and this was the most dificult job I have had in at least 35 years!!
Also, i am having a hard time navigating the forum here. I should have taken the time when I registered to educate myself about it and how to move around but I was in a hurry and forgot to put on my brain today. LOL I lurked for a while and I registered because I saw how much is known here and I must say I am glad that I am here. Thanks in advance to all who reach out to help, it is a very big deal to me and, well, thanks!

to the forums!

Here's an easy way to change the belt. You're going to want to take it back off to check the components that donbrew referenced above. One of them may be locked up, and broke that belt.

Yep, the belts don't just up and break.

Pretty easy to do the belt.... with a modified tool. The normal tool handle is too long.

If you support the engine with a floor jack and block of wood, you can remove the upper engine mount and lower the engine to get at the 3/8 square hole to release tension

Well the belt let go and hung up in the space but didn't bind anything and it started and drove exactly as before. It only changed when the belt was changed. Battery is good 12.95v so I charged it due to running it down trying to get it started. The noise is a whine and a double hit as the engine turns over. Kind of whine bump bump whine. Engine starting speed is slow but does begin to turn a little faster but will not start, not even fire one time. Today was spent figuring out the hatch latch and getting it open to put battery back in place. All charged up and made no difference in starter speed. I'm really not looking forward to taking the belt off, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. And this is one of them. I don't know what component would both slow the starter and prevent ignition firing even once. I'm sure it was turning fast enough to fire once but I'm not positive. And even assuming I could record the sound it makes I prob couldn't get it into a post for anyone to use. I have been a mechanic most of my life but a long time ago I started working on Harleys and seldom worked on cars again. That was in the seventies so back to now I remember why I didn't want to work on cars, too much grease and laying on the ground and getting crap in the eyes and burnt fingers etc. WELL THANKS for letting me vent for a minor and I hope I didn't drive anyone away. I will figure out (with a little help) what I did under there and fix it. Again Thanks to any and all who have dialed into this little gem and reached out to help!

There is a link in my sig to free Owner Manual and shop manuals. If you don't see my sig scroll all the way down and choose view full site.
Or https://charm.li/ and https://www.chevrolet.com/support/ve...manuals-guides
What is to figure out about the hatch latch? Just touch the place that is intuitive to opening it, after unlocking all doors.
