The bearing is integral to the hub, so different words same item.

SEARCH phrase "hub bearing"

UPDATE

It was the wheel bearing, let me say, it is a pain in the you know what, the job itself is simple, even for someone like myself, I never done anything similar to this.

The huge amount of work and energy comes in when you have to get your rusted old wheel bearing out. You need patience, and a lot of power.

I kept hitting it with a hammer for about 2 hours before it came out.

Putting parts back together were somewhat easy, although I do got to say, my brake pedals feel a little soft when I press on them now, but the brakes themselves still work like they did before, I just need to press on the brake pedal further down. Anyone knows why thats happening now?

Did you open the hydraulic system when you removed the caliper? If you did, you must bleed the brakes.

I have noticed the pedal being like that for a couple times after a caliper R&R, just a pump or 2 though.

Have you adjusted the rears? They need it!

Hey DonBrew, thanks for the reply.

To be honest with you I dont know what the hydraulic system is. So I am not sure if I did open it or not.

Also, when I put the brake pads back I left about half an inch space between the pads and the disc, should I leave more space or push the pads closer to the disc?

If you don't know what makes the brakes work please don't ever touch them again. Go to a mechanic and have your brakes fixed they are broken.

If there is a half inch space those pads are worn out!

I think he meant before he stepped on the brake pedal.

It really does not matter how far the pads are from the disc, before you step on the pedal. The pistons will move in to the proper spot, if they don't you need new calipers.

However a half inch is pretty much; could you see a groove in the pads? If the groove is gone you need new pads.

haha fair enough, as much as I'd like to learn on how to fix my HHR brakes are still something I wouldnt venture too far into. It's been a week since I changed the wheel bearings, and the brakes seem to work just fine. Considering that I use them a lot since i am constantly in bumper to bumper traffic, as well as I did some tests where I do a sudden stop and see if the car is swerving into a certain direction, everything seems to be just fine with them.

I will check to see the grooves on the brake pads.

I did not see all the posts here before I put my nickels worth on here but, I'll leave it stand for incase someone new comes searching.

The wheel bearing comes with a hub. I'm not sure if you can get just a bearing.

Here is a link to the ones I put in my '06

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Wheel-Hub-Bearing-Pair-Set-of-2-for-Malibu-Aura-G6-w-ABS-5-Lug-/310978271613?fits=Model%3AHHR&hash=item4867bfd97d&vxp=mtr
Only the passengers side was making noise for me but I like to replace wheel bearings in pairs, call me odd or whatever its, a thing,...

I did save the one that was quiet, its on the highest shelf in the garage, wrapped in a nice greasy rag {I cleaned it up real nice then put fresh grease on the rag} inside a gallon zip lock baggy, I know if one starts making noise again I will replace both and put the still quiet one on the shelf with the other though,...

And I agree if you have that much space between the rotor and pad you really should think about replacing both. My kid has been using my HHR for the past few months and has worn the brakes totally out on the passengers side and the drivers side inside it just starting to grind. I have the car back and parts are on order.

I'm going to replace the calipers brackets and all this time. The guide pins on the passengers side are stuck in the brackets so they must be replaced. Auto zone is going to loan me a pressure bleeder device so I can bleed the lines by myself.

I think you may have posted the wrong link grizzly.
I guess the SS with rear disc uses a different hub and knuckle. Something new learned!
