It tells you how to remove it in the owners manual. If you don't have a manual they are listed as a "sticky" at the top of the problem page on the forum. Chevy seemed to have known about the problem when they wrote the book is all I can figure. Mostly on the '06 and some 07's and maybe just a couple of 08's but wouldn't swear to it but I know most of the words.
Another thing to check is your shifter button. I find on some of these that the button is stuck in. If I whop on the shifter with my fist the button pops out and the key releases.
If you haven't searched the threads the access to the release is at the bottom of the column near the ignition key. Open the access cover and press the release lever to get the key out.

Stuck
I lightly, but furmly, bump the shift lever slightly forward towards the window switches with the palm of my hand.This allows the linkage to move to the proper detent and the key to be turned to the "Off Position, to remove the key".
Good luck;
We had the problem with the stuck key about a year or so ago on our '06. The dealer replaced the shifter assy and all was OK again 'til a few weeks ago.This time the car wouldn't start occasionally.
