Sun roof will not open

Sorry to dig up an ol thread. I'm having an issue with my sunroof in that it won't open. It will start to open, lower, and move maybe a 1/4" then just clicks. It appears to be hanging up on the drivers side. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.

Does the headliner need to come out for me to really get at it?

Since it won't open, yes via the headliner.

Rather than hijack the other thread, I've moved the post from the How-to section, to it's own thread in the Problem/Service section.

If you can, you should inspect the track. You could be lucky and just need to remove some dirt or apply some lube.

I don't have one, so I don't know how accessible the track is.

Any dents in the roof? I know there is not a lot of room for the glass to slide under the roof panel.

Nope no dents. I believe it's either jammed up or something has broken in or on the left track. It really tries to move, just can't.

Could be the gear stripped or drive cable broken.
Could be the popup wind deflector.
A careful disassembly will find the issue, good luck.

I figured it could be a number of things. I have a borescope so I'll run it along the tracks to see what I find. Is the drive and such towards the rear?

I'll do an in depth how to on my findings as the hhr seems to have a lot of sunroof issues. Mine is an 08 SS with the pillar air bags as well.

That is, if I have to take the headliner out. I plan to in the future adding an entertainment center for the kids.

I can't test anything out right now as I've got all the fuse panels out prepping the engine bay with a fresh coat of victory red!

Looks like the motor is at the back end of the frame

That does help are there any descriptions on parts 1-8? I can pick out half of them. In wondering if 1 is the frame and 2 is the window itself. From the pic it looks like the moving parts(+tracks to clean) are part of #1.
