sunroof windscreen needs fixing!
sunroof windscreen needs fixing!
A short while ago I was driving with my sunroof open. When I parked the car I went to close the roof. When I did I noticed the windscreen didnot close properly. I got out to investigate and discovered the bracket on passenger side of screen broke and no longer operated properly when the window slid close. I don't know how this could have happened. I've not had problems with this before. Since this is an automatic operation I know no ones hand could have broken this bracket.
This bracket is riveted on and it seems like a pretty close fit. Has anyone else had to fix this and if so how?

Thanks;
Both seem like a good fix. The one talks about removing the headline as instructed by SI. I am not sure what SI is and all I have is a manual that doesn't mention anything about the sunroof. If I can't figure that out I'll do a deflector install.

Easy Fix
I replaced the broken bracket today to fix the windscreen, easy fix about 1/2 hr. You do not need to remove the headliner which is indicated on the TSB. Follow the TSB instructions, remove the rivet just be carefull when drilling and punching out rivet not to damage the headliner. Use a rivet tool with a narrow head which is required to be able to seat the rivets in place. Rivet the bracket from the top, no clamp is required. Just use the old broken bracket as a template to drill 2 1/8 holes in the new bracket. Presto your done, easy as pie.

this is the first that I have heard of anyone being able to fix this issue without going to. The dealer.
Any pictures of the procedure

Just use the TSB pictures on this post from the Chevy Mgr. I think that in the TSB they removed the headliner either 1) to drill the holes in the new bracket from inside the car rather than using the old bracket as a template and drill holes on the bench. Or 2) On the TSB they riveted the bracket from the bottom, they may have had a rivet gun that had too large a head and they were unable to rivet the bracket from the top. My rivet gun has a slimmer head design than some and I was able to rivet the bracket from the top.
Hey GOLFHHR, thanks for the info. I really didn't think it was necessary to remove the head liner to pop rivet the new bracket. I ordered a new bracket yesterday. I’m going to attempt the repair without removing the headliner. I’ll take pictures and let ya’ll know how it goes.
