Tach Stopped Working..:(
So here it is... My 2011 Chevy HHR Tachometer stopped working
!
Any who i bought a simple cheep tach so that i can still monitor my RPMs, Picture below shows the Tachometer...
[/IMG]
As you can see i have it installed, power is hooked up and everything else. The only issue i am having is where to i put THE TACH SIGNAL WIRE!!! i have been researching for days... i know someone has done this its just the matter of finding them! i have already ran the wire threw the firewall. picture below.

i was going to just replace the assembly so that my gauge would work but after hearing the price hell no.. sorry for the pictures being sideways not sure why
I bought the Hanes repair manual, nothing that i needed was found as far as this...
if anyone could shed some light on my day and help get this going i worship you!
Thanks in Advance

I would think the RPM is monitored by the ECM thru the crank position sensor, the Haynes manual should have the wiring diagram and which colour wire to tap in the gauge cluster harness. Is it the tach gone wonky or the sensor or the ECM?
IM 90% sure its the gauge, took it to a small town garage they said the motor in the gauge cluster was bad. It does not move at all i tested it for power in the line and the line is fine. So if the wire has power the sensor must be okay yet. so i need to tap into the CPS wire?
The factory gauge does not have a traditional tack wire signal going to it. The gauge cluster is a computer that gets its information from other computers like the ECM and they talk in computer Language.

X2, it's a case of "Module A" communicating with "Module B" through the GM-LAN Can Bus duplexed wiring system.
No distributor, no tach drive, no tach signal to tap into, it's all 1's and 0's.
The only cure for a dead tach is to run the "Diagnostics Tree" using a Tech II, and then in 99% of the cases, the I/C has snuffed it. So you replace the Instrument Cluster, which needs programming to pair up with your HHR and recover your Odometer reading.
Not to knock small town garages or the techs who work in them, because some are incredibly competent, and their diagnosis of a bad I/C sounds spot on.

Contact MSD they are awesome folks, have helped me a lot with my old 355 SBC and resolving an issue with their ignition box and distributor.
They overnighted a new box , harness and distributor thru in plug wires a cap and rotor and a Blaster II coil
It turned out to be the ignition box, they waited six months until I brought the return products to their booth at a national event in Carlisle Pa.
Very nice folks to deal with!
