AM/FM magically stopped working.
AM/FM magically stopped working.
So about a month ago I noticed that I have no FM reception at all (just slight static, same across all stations) and AM reception is bad, but still listenable. I have XM, which works fine. I took it to the dealer, and they told me that I needed a new radio. That was a month ago...they claim it is back ordered.
This is the second radio for my SS...first one would not take the XM signal right from the lot. Everything is stock, and I did not touch anything. It just stopped working.
Any idea what could be the issue? The connections look good, but any suggestions on what I could look into myself? Every time I take my shiny black SS in for service, it leaves with a new scratch or greasy fingerprint somewhere. That is from several different dealers too.

Try a different antenae and/or co-axe. I'm surprised your dealer didn't do that.
If you do try a different ant. please consider where you are hooking into it at. If it has it's own pig tail co-axe and it fixes the issue. Then try it on the roof so you are using your co-axe. Otherwise it may be the co-axe and not the ant.

Indeed they are. After snooping around online I checked the fuse panel on the passenger side of the console. Some of the fuses were loose, so I made sure they were all seated. AM/FM fixed! And they wanted to replace the whole unit...
I also had problems with my radio. It took frying 3 radios before the dealer figured it out. The problem, and it was a big problem, was the electrial system. They had to replace ALL the computers and most of the wiring plus a new radio. Of course this happened 1 month after the warranty expired, but GM, as a good faith gesture, did not charge me.
